Yipkabongo | About Ghana

Yipkabongo is north of Tamale in the Builsa traditional area, with access via Walewale, the District capital for West Mamprusi.

Yikpabongo and three other towns, Tantala, Yeziesi and Kubore are noted for terra cottas, which have their roots in the famous ninth Century Koma civilization that flourished in the area from Sandema, through the Fambisi Valley to Kubore.

The area is a rich archaeological site where the University of Ghana has done pilot excavations. Also of interest are the traditional architectural styles, culture and customs of the people.
