Bui National Park | About Ghana

Renowned for its hippopotami, Bui National Park covers 1,821 sq. km of hilly woodlands and valleys within the catchment area of the Black Volta River where it turns left from the Ivorian border. In 1971, the gorge below the Park was earmarked for the construction of a hydroelectric dam, which is expected to flood eight per cent of the Park to be followed by the development of visitor facilities. Elephant, roan antelope, hartebeest, water duck, kob, bush buck, duiker, olive baboon and other monkeys are residents alongside reptiles and a large number of birds. The park also boasts of wonderful and unique bird species which adds some flavor to the natural haven.
